The job

A tree came down across the building and opened up the roof at one end, taking a run of soffit and fascia with it. That section on its own could have been patched. But the shingles it would have had to match were worn 3-tab near the end of their life, and this is one roof over four households rather than four roofs that happen to touch, so a patch would have set a new plane against a tired one down a run that reads as a single roof from the street. The whole thing came off instead. We took it a slope at a time, so the far side was dried in before the near side came off and no unit was ever left open, then rebuilt the soffit and fascia where the tree came through and ran new gutters and downspouts along the full eave line.
